Privacy Policy

Who we are

Thank you for visiting Lit4Light.com. This privacy policy applies to our collection, use, sharing, and protection of personal information we receive from visitors and users of this website.  Please read this privacy policy before using the site or submitting any personal information. By using this site, you are accepting the practices described in this privacy policy.  If you disagree with this privacy policy, either in whole or in part, please discontinue use of this website.  We encourage you to please read our privacy policy carefully to better understand how we collect, use, and protect your personally identifiable information in accordance with this site.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

We collect personally identifiable information such as names, email addresses, etc., when you register on our site, subscribe to a newsletter or email list, fill out a form, provide us with feedback, or otherwise voluntarily submit information on our site. This information is only used to fulfill a specific request made by you.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it.  The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Third-Party Links

Our website may contain links or other content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.) to other websites of interest. Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.  These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and/or are logged in to that website.  Once you have used these links to leave our site, you should be advised that we do not have any control over third-party websites.  These sites have separate and independent privacy policies.  Therefore, we have no responsibility or liability for the content and activities of these linked sites.  We cannot be responsible for the protection and privacy of any information which you provide when visiting these sites and such sites are not governed by this privacy policy.  You should exercise caution and read the privacy policy of the website in question.

Who we share your data with

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personally identifiable information to third-parties unless we provide users with advance notice. This does not include web hosting partners and other parties who assist us in operating our website so long as those parties agree to keep this information confidential. We may however release information when appropriate to comply with the law, enforce our website policies, or protect ours or others’ rights, property or safety.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Commitment to Data Security

Your personally identifiable information is kept secure. Only authorized employees, agents and contractors (who have agreed to keep information secure and confidential) have access to this information. All emails and newsletters from this site allow you to opt out of further mailings.
