Faith Activates the Power of God: 6 Reasons to be Audacious

Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1). Someone asked, why is faith so important? How does faith affect your life? The answer? Faith activates the power of God in your life and your circumstances.

The number 12 is known by biblical scholars to be synonymous with faith and completeness. It is referenced many times over in scripture, two of which occurred in Luke 8:40-56 in an epic parable of two unnamed daughters. One 12 years of age, the other, battling an issue for the same length of time.

The story begins with Jairus, a church leader, who makes his way through a crowd in dire need of Jesus’ help. He falls to Jesus’ feet and begs Him to come to his home and lay hands on his daughter who was near death. Jesus agrees, and the two, along with the disciples and a crowd of followers, head toward Jairus’ house to save the dying child.

On the way to Jairus’ house, a miraculous thing happened. In the crowd was a woman who had been suffering an issue of blood. For 12 years, this woman had been dealing with a nonstop menstrual flow and spent all she had trying to get well to no avail.

Due to societal norms of the time, and the condition from which she suffered, this woman was considered to be unclean. Consequently, she was an outcast.

Crouched down on the ground, she decided to make a desperate, yet bold move. When Jesus and the crowd walked by, she touched the bottom of His clothes and immediately she received healing. Jesus stopped and asked, who touched me, but everyone denied doing so. The disciples tried to convince Him it was the many people in the crowd pushing and shoving up against Him, but He said no, somebody touched me because I felt power go out from me. Did you catch that? A bold move of faith activates the power of God!

When the woman realized she’d been figured out, she timidly confessed, saying she knew if she could just touch the hem of His garments, she would be made whole. Pleased by her faith, Jesus said to her, Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace (Luke 8:48, ESV).  Just like that, she was healed. Her belief in Him released the power to do just what she believed Him for.

After the impromptu miracle, someone came to inform Jairus that his daughter had died and there was no need to have Jesus come to the house, but Jesus said to Jairus, only believe.

When they arrived to Jairus’ home, Jesus put everybody out of the house except the little girl’s parents, and his top 3 dogs, Peter, John, and James. He took the child by the hand and told her to arise! The scripture says her spirit returned and she got up at once. Jesus advised her parents to feed her, and never tell anyone about what happened that day.

The correlation between these two stories is not coincidental. Jesus is always intentional. From these two stories, I want to share 6 reasons to have audacious faith that activates the power of God.

1.  Your bold faith will cause a flow of power.

Jesus was traveling through a crowd of people, many touching Him as he passed, but how is it that power only left Him when the woman touched Him? Her touch was different and it was different because she wanted something. She wanted something so bad that her faith caused her to react and released the flow of power between her and Jesus. When you want it bad enough, you’ll be willing to make the first move. It’s not enough to just believe. You must DO something so God can move on your behalf. Faith without action behind it is dead (James 2:17).

Because of her boldness, her faith in Jesus brought her 12 years of suffering to completion. It’s funny how the blood that flowed through her made her unclean to touch, but the blood that flowed through Jesus transcended her circumstances and the power of His blood made her clean inside. Won’t He make you clean inside!

But the Holy Spirit will come upon you and give you power.

Acts 1:8, CEV

2.  Fear not, you are not your condition.

Leviticus 15 says the woman was unclean for as long as her blood flow continued. She was living in seclusion, ignored by society, suffering a diminished quality of life. Imagine what that does to the mental and emotional health of a person already dealing with physical maladies. I’m sure it can make you feel insignificant.

She tried to remain unseen as she touched Jesus’ clothes, but He wouldn’t allow her to be invisible any longer. He publicly acknowledged her courage, calling her ‘daughter’. Jesus let her know, no matter her condition, she and her faith were still valid.

She could’ve let Jesus pass her by out of fear her condition would disqualify her for healing, but she decided to faith it instead and put action behind it. Don’t let what you go through define your life and who you are. You are not what happens to you, but who you become by surviving what does.

In Christ we can come before God with freedom and without fear. We can do this through faith in Christ.

Ephesians 3:12, ESV

3.  God will give you a front row seat to the miracles of others.

The Lord will often allow you to see other people’s miracles to heighten your faith and get you ready to receive your own. Jairus was in panic mode and needed a faith lift and Jesus used the miracle of the woman to do it. If you can witness it in the lives of others, you can have faith that it will happen for you too. Sometimes all we need is a boost from others to get our faith up so we can receive a miracle like the woman with the issue of blood.

4.  A divine delay will produce a miraculous manifestation.

The moment you think it’s too late is when God will blow your mind. That is the time to really keep the faith and hold onto hope. The people said Jesus took too long to get to Jairus’ house and since the little girl had died, there was no need for Him to come, but Jesus’ delay was for the glorification of God. God is not constrained by our time limits. When we think He’s late, He’s right on time for a miracle.

5.  What you thought was dead has the power to live again.

It may sound cliche, but it’s not over until God calls it finished. To man’s eye, the little girl was dead, but Jesus said she was only sleeping and raised her back to life. How many times has something looked dead to you, but Jesus turned it around? Sometimes God will let something die just so He can raise it up again. Just when you think all hope is lost, Jesus can resurrect your dead situation with His power. Don’t call it finished until He does.

6.  You are strengthened for the journey.

Jesus told the little girl, arise and eat. I believe this is because we have an incessant need to be fed in order to reach our full strength. After any death, be it the loss of a relationship, a loved one, a job, or whatever, we need strong faith to carry on with life and continue the journey ahead. Our spiritual food is what sustains us for that journey. It builds the faith that activates the power of God for what is next.

Faith is the medium of exchange in God’s kingdom, a kingdom in which we must believe in order to receive. Romans 10:17 tells us that it comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. It is the element of our being that is most pleasing to Him (Hebrews 11:6). It is how we achieve what looks impossible in our human ability. Whatever you need God to do for you today, do you have enough faith built up in order to receive it?
